SPOILER ALERT review Spider Man No Way Home

After waiting for a very long time, MCU fans were very excited when the cinemas opened again at the beginning of 2022. This meant that they finally could get to see one of Marvel’s newest cinematic masterpieces: Spider-Man: No Way Home. After the dramatic end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, at which Peter Parker was revealed to be Spiderman by villain Mysterio, many fans were very excited to find out what would happen next. In this blog post, I will tell you some things I really liked about the newest Spider-Man movie and what I would have done differently.

Warning: if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you should stop reading here! 😉

Together with many others, I was happy to see that Doctor Strange appeared so early in the movie. I think the dynamic between Parker and Strange is always very funny. Somewhere in the beginning of the movie, Peter requested Strange if he could make everybody forget that he is Spiderman. With some hesitation, Strange agrees and performs a spell to make everyone forget about Spiderman. However, everything goes wrong and the two end up messing with the multiverse.

This has some massive consequences: the enemies of multiple Spider-Mans across the universe end up on earth. I personally really liked that we got to see The Green Goblin, Dr. Otto Octavius and some other villains from different Spiderman Movies on screen again. Their acting skills are just all so good, especially of Willem Dafoe, who portrays the Green Goblin. Willem Dafoe’s return also meant the return of a very iconic sentence from the first Spiderman movie with Tobey Maguire: “You know, I’m something of a scientist myself”. I found this really funny, and was really glad that they made this reference.

While Peter Parker struggles getting the villains from the multiverse back to their own planet, help comes from unexpected places. Peter Parkers from other planets arrive to put an end to all the chaos. This meant the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield(!). The three Peter Parkers start working together (with MJ and Ned of course) to save the multiverse. What I really liked is that the three Spider-Mans are very different and come from different places, but the dynamic between them is still very wholesome.

But there is always a ‘but’… I personally very much disliked the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home. At the end, Peter Parker (the Tom Holland one 😉) sacrifices himself to save the multiverse. This means that everybody on earth forgets who Peter Parker is. I found it so sad to see that MJ and Ned didn’t even recognize him anymore. I hoped that Peter would confront MJ in the end with the fact that they used to be lovers, but he doesn’t. I found this really sad, and wish that the creators of the movie would have done it differently.

The conclusion: I think Spider-Man: No Way Home is (apart from the ending) one very good MCU production. It contains a lot of wholesome content and also doesn’t have any cinematic shortcomings. And as icing on the cake: Tom Holland and Zendaya are just adorable together 😊

Thanks for reading!!
