Pub Lecture @ GYS 26/11/2019

The Career Committee of 2019/2020 started off the academic year with organising a very successful pub lecture at restaurant GYS. The theme of the night was sustainable entrepreneurship, titled 'Real Talk for Aspiring Bosses'. First half of the evening was filled with an inspirational story by recently graduated Stormer Maarten Klop. He has just started working on a freelance basis, organizing and developing a variety of events and products that make our lives a little greener. Afterwards the CEO and COO of Clariter told us all the ins and outs on starting off a business when almost no one (yet) believes in your product. The perfect example of it's the dogged that does it! They now have developed an advanced technique turing plastic waste into high-grade chemical liquids, being the world's first!

Case night 13/06/2019

NewForesight and Deltares joined our case night at university. NewForesight, an up and coming company that is involved with projects in the developing world, in which they work together with multinationals to improve the circumstances for workers. They organized a workshop in which they gave us a sneak peek into their line of work. Deltares gave an introduction to the company, followed by a quiz that combined facts about the company with questions about the current environmental state of both the Netherland and the world in general. Afterward, there was an opportunity for the participants to ask questions to the company representatives or talk with them.

CV workshop 19/03/2019

Our sponsor ECO-job gave a workshop on getting to know everything you need to know when applying for a job. Members could send in their CVs, which would then be checked by people who have experience with making them. During the workshop, we learned about how we should structure our CV and what we should and should not mention on it. Next, we discussed everything about how to prepare for a job interview. Everything from how to dress to how you should behave during the conversation. After the workshop, we were more ready for the job market and our future careers.

Exploring the job market & Networking workshop 15/01/2019

Together with the Career Services of the Geosciences Faculty, the career committee organised a workshop for the members of Storm. The aim of this workshop was to get the members acquainted with how to kick of their professional career. During the workshop we discussed what possible employers could be for students with our study background. We then touched upon the importance of professional network, and how LinkedIn is a great way to achieve that goal. Franca (the Career Service coördinator of the Faculty) explained to us her career path and that it is not set in stone once you start working in a certain sector. The workshop ended with an interactive training on how to have a conversation with a representative of a company you might be interested in.
