              You woke up this morning, and you probably spent about an hour getting ready, am I right? In this hour you made breakfast, brushed your teeth, maybe took shower (maybe even crammed that last minute study material), some of you may have just laid in bed and looked at social media all morning. Me? I cuddled my cat.

All of these things could’ve happened, however, one thing is certain. In that hour that you spent waking up, 900 metric tons of plastic entered oceans around the world.

That’s disgraceful.

After having cuddled my cat, I opened up my phone and read the BBC. After sifting through the nonsense about the Trumps daily tweets and the Jenner family’s drama I stumbled upon an article, all the way at the bottom of BBC homepage that intrigued me immediately. The headline read: “Coca-Cola pledges to recycle all packaging by 2030”. Firstly, I thought, why is so far down the front page of BBC? Isn’t this incredibly groundbreaking? Well the surprising answer is, yes, yes it is. Imagine it, a massive company owning 500 different brands of drinks that all use plastic bottles announces a goal like this:

“...to help collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one we sell by 2030. Regardless of where it comes from, we want every package to have more than one life.

This is our vision for a World Without Waste.”

“A world without waste”, now that sounds good. Quincy states, that Coca Cola pledges to recycle every bottle they use by 2030. At first I thought this sounded like a crazy and way to ambitious goal for a company this big, but then something came to my mind. James Quincy is right, we have polluted, damaged and destroyed our Earth so much, that the best thing we can do is to drastically change our society, only this way can we achieve a more sustainable future.

Imagine that every company that uses polluting packaging, big or small, follows the lead of Coca Cola. Imagine if everyone put their expertise and resources into solving this challenge. Imagine if together we could make a lasting difference by recycling all our packaging.

Then all of a sudden “a world without waste” becomes possible.

When humans take collective action we can create and do utterly wonderful things. All we need is to change our attitude, and make a meaningful difference together.

Because, by the time you’ve read this, over 40,000 plastic bottles have entered the worlds oceans.

But, together we can change that number, maybe one day even bring it down to zero. Yes, it will require a lot of work and dedication but trust me, its worth worth it.
